How to Make Chernihiv Borscht Recipe
- Prepare the Ingredients
- Cut the beef into medium-sized cubes.
- Peel and dice the beets, carrots, onions, and potatoes.
- Peel and dice the apple.
- Chop the bell pepper into small pieces.
- Rinse the buckwheat in cold water and drain.
- Saute the Ingredients
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot. Add a small piece of bacon for flavor and fry until the fat starts to render.
- Add the onion and garlic, sauté until softened.
- Then add the carrots and beets, sauté for a few minutes until the vegetables are softened.
- Add the beef and fry until browned.
- Cook the Borscht
- Add the diced potatoes to the pot.
- Pour in enough boiling water to cover all the ingredients and bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, add the buckwheat and simmer over medium heat until the meat and potatoes are cooked through (usually about 20-30 minutes).
- When the borscht is almost ready, add the diced apple and bell pepper.
