How to Make American Potato Salad

  1. Boil the potatoes in their skins in salted water until done (about 20-30 minutes). Check the readiness of the potatoes by piercing them with a fork - they should be soft but not falling apart.
  2. At the same time, in a separate pot, boil the eggs until they are hard-boiled (about 9-12 minutes after boiling).
  3. When the potatoes and eggs are ready, let them cool. Then peel the potatoes and eggs.
  4. Cut the potatoes into cubes, the eggs into small pieces, and the onion into thin half-rings.
  5. In a large bowl, mix the mayonnaise, mustard, and vinegar. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Add the potatoes, eggs, and onion to the bowl. Mix thoroughly so that all the ingredients are covered in the sauce.
  7. Before serving, garnish the salad with green onions or dill.
