How to Make Curd Puffs (Vatrushki)
- Preparing the dough: Dissolve sugar and yeast in warm milk. Let them sit for 10-15 minutes to activate the yeast. Then add salt, vegetable oil, and egg. Gradually add flour, kneading the dough. It should be soft and elastic. Leave the dough in a warm place for 1-2 hours to rise.
- Preparing the filling: Add sugar, vanilla sugar, and egg to the cottage cheese. Mix everything well until smooth.
- Forming the vatrushki: Divide the risen dough into equal parts. Roll each piece into a round flatbread about 1 cm thick. Put the filling in the middle of each flatbread and form a vatrushka by lifting the edges of the dough towards the center, leaving a hole for the filling.
- Baking: Place the vatrushki on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for about 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
- Serving: The finished vatrushki can be sprinkled with powdered sugar or served as is.
