Beef Empanadas

How to Make Beef Empanadas
Dough:
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder.
- Add the lard or butter and rub it into the flour until it forms tiny crumbs.
- Gradually add the water, kneading the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Let the dough rest under a cover for 30 minutes.
Filling:
- Cut the beef into small pieces. Chop the onion and garlic.
- In a large pan, heat the oil, add the onion and garlic, and sauté until golden.
- Add the beef and spices (salt, pepper, cumin, paprika). Sauté until the meat turns brown.
- Remove from heat and add the chopped green onions.
Assembly and Baking:
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
- Divide the dough into equal parts (about 12 pieces). Roll each piece into a thin circle.
- Place a bit of filling in the center of each circle.
- Fold the dough in half, forming a half-circle, and firmly pinch the edges to form the empanada.
- Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush each empanada with the beaten egg to give it a golden color.
- Bake in the oven for about 20-25 minutes or until golden.
